Several towns and cities across Brazil and Paraguay have declared a state of emergency due to the rising number of cases or Dengue being reported. While only 2 people have died, there have been thousands of cases which have been reported.
Recent heavy rains and standing water have brought about the right conditions for mosquitoes to breed. The federal government are bringing in a number of special powers allowing them to take swift action to help to prevent more breeding and further cases being created. According to the BBC website ‘In Paraguay, across the border from Mato Grosso do Sul, 8 people have died from the fever and more than 8,500 suspected cases have been reported.’
