The 37-member jury of experts for the “red dot award: product design 2013” were impressed by the innovative power displayed by leading ‘Sunlight Manager’ Warema. The jury members received over 4,600 entries in 19 different categories in this year’s competition. Only the best designs were able to catch the eye of the jury, the Warema pergola awning P40 was one of these and received the red dot for its superior design.
The Warema pergola awning shades areas of up to 6,500 x 7,000 mm, for larger areas, multiple units can be installed in series.
The guide rails themselves can be curved creating both an unusual design and making it possible to adjust the headroom of self-supporting awnings to the desired heights. The larger the shaded area, the more significant this advantage created, which is particularly relevant to the restaurant and catering industry. As in the internal conservatory awning W10, Warema has also implemented secudrive®, the new guidance system with a spring steel strip, in the P40 Warema pergola awning. The system holds the fabric in the rail along its entire length so that the Warema Pergola Awning is guided on all four sides. This prevents light slits, enhances wind stability and ensures optimal tension as the fabric is extended and retracted. Thanks to the secudrive® system, this works with curved guide rails as well – entirely without additional guiding tubes or undesired incident light. This special type of guide makes the guide rails easy to disassemble, for example to use the outdoor areas for other purposes in winter.
Another Warema pergola awning feature to highlight is the moving reinforcement profile. It stabilises the extended unit and almost fully disappears when retracted. The reinforcement profile is connected flush with the projection profile by means of a pusher and is guided by the pusher above the rail. While it is being extended, the profile meets a safety catch whose special form separates the reinforcement profile from the projection profile. In the same step, the reinforcement profile locks firmly with the guide rail and the projection profile continues moving alone. A spring ensures that the reinforcement profile is always kept securely in position. When the awning is retracted, the pusher locks the projection profile back onto the reinforcement profile in passing so that it is automatically guided back to the cover panel. Thus, when the Warema Pergola Awning is closed, no additional profiles are visible.
The motorised Warema Pergola Awnings are easy to operate. Warema control components can be used to implement a wind and rain monitoring system. Additional accessories like light rails or radiant heaters can also be controlled using radio technology. Integrated lighting reflects off of the fabric to generate an agreeable indirect lighting effect. This creates a pleasant, comfortable ambience under the awning. Fabrics can be selected from the entire Warema Pergola awning collection of more than 300 fabrics. The powder-coated aluminium parts can be finished to match the facade or individual design requirements thanks to the manufacturer’s own powder-coating plant.
Prof. Dr. Peter Zec, initiator and CEO of red dot, pointed out that strong design competence and economic success nowadays go hand in hand: “The winners of the ‘red dot award: product design 2013’ are the protagonists of a highly developed design culture and design industry. These days it is becoming more and more difficult to distinguish between well-designed products. It is often only in the details that the special qualities become apparent. However, those product creations that pass the test before the critical eyes of the international red dot jury will stand out from the crowd and compete globally.”
